Golfers play to benefit Wellness Connection at the Greater New Bedford Community Health Center

FALL RIVER, MA -- The 16th Annual Benefit Golf Tournament for the Greater New Bedford Community Health Center got underway at the Fall River Country Club. Golf Committee Chairman, Jean Desrosiers, thanked the donors, golfers, sponsors, and volunteers for their generosity in raising over $35,000 for the completion of the new Wellness Connection facility. The Wellness Connection is a weight management, smoking cessation, and diabetic teaching center providing motivational weight management programs, nutrition counseling, and behavioral counseling and support. Walgreens, which provides full pharmacy services on the Health Center campus, supported the 2009 fund-raiser as a Tournament Co-Sponsor. Senior Whole Health sponsored the fleet of golf carts that ferried the players around the course. Golf balls were provided by the Georgeopoulos Fund and golf shirts for the participants were supplied by the GNBCHC Golf Committee.

The annual tournament has raised over $485,000 over the past 15 years. This has helped the Health Center to develop programs to better serve the community. It has also allowed the Health Center to undertake the capital improvements that keep the facility modern and well equipped.

The hard working golf committee included Jean Desrosiers, Edna Carroll, Anna Dutra, Darlene Dymsza, Roxanne Ferrer, John Ford, Peter Georgeopoulos, Francine Georgeopoulos, Dawn Johnson, Stephanie Machado, Derek Mendes, Olga Moura, Robert Nochimow, Victoria Pereira, Nelson Quintal, Monica Santos, Pamela Schmidt, Chris Walton, and Beth Yuen.

Third Place: Dan Faber, Mike Valm, Ted Valm, Jeff Dubois
Closest to the Pin: Joe Caesar
Longest Drives: Ellenor Priest and Robbie Donahoe
