GNBCHC Executive Director Peter Georgeopoulos Receives Downtown New Bedford, Inc.'s "Person of the Year Award"

NEW BEDFORD — Downtown New Bedford, Inc. conducted its 21st anniversary annual meeting with a luncheon Oct. 27 at the Waypoint Event Center at the Fairfield Inn, 185 McArthur Drive.

The featured speakers were Dr. John J. Sbrega, president of Bristol Community College and Gerald Kavanaugh, president of Kavanaugh Software Innovations. They spoke about the launch of the new eHealthCareers program that Bristol Community College is offering this fall in downtown New Bedford. DNB Inc.'s Executive Director Diane Arsenault said; "This community will certainly benefit by the expansion of the campus into the Cherry Building and we certainly look forward to the increase in traffic and excitement the students and faculty will bring to the downtown".

The meeting also honored a number of individuals for contributions to DNB, Inc. and the community. Presented with the "Person of the Year Award" was Peter Georgeopoulos, executive director of the Greater New Bedford Community Health Center. Arsenault said "This is in recognition of Georgeopoulos' tireless efforts to provide health care to our citizens as well as transforming the center into a professional, attractive facility complementing our Downtown".

Appreciation Awards were presented to retiring Board Member Lisa Bergson, executive director of the Waterfront Historic Area League for her service to DNB, Inc. and Whitney White for her many hours of volunteer service to the organization.
