Greater New Bedford Community Health Center WIC Program Receives “Exceeds” Rating
NEW BEDFORD, Mass. - The Greater New Bedford Community Health Center is pleased to announce that its WIC Program has received a 98% compliance score in its 2011 Management Evaluation by the Department of Public Health.
WIC is a nutrition program that provides free nutritious food, nutrition counseling, breastfeeding support, immunization screening and referrals for children, as well as social service and health referrals. WIC services are available to eligible pregnant and postpartum women and children under the age of 5. Health Center patients participating in WIC have shown reduced numbers of low birth weights and reduced infant mortality.
The Management Evaluation noted “excellent customer service and rapport with participants, interactive and culturally appropriate nutrition counseling sessions, and fantastic breastfeeding promotion and support.”
