The
Greater New Bedford Community Health Center
(GNBCHC) has been operating since 1981. We serve over 20% of the population of Greater New Bedford with several medical,
dental and ancillary health services, including
adult and
pediatric primary care,
urgent care,
dentistry, podiatry,
nutrition,
WIC,
maternal and child health,
women's health services,
HIV/AIDS primary care, prevention and treatment, medical social work, translation services,
benefits counseling, nursing,
tobacco treatment, and specialty clinics.
On-site laboratory and radiology services are provided, and a satellite site at the Caroline Street Apartments offers
health services for the elderly.
The
GNBCHC recently completed an expansion initiative that doubled the size of its downtown New Bedford campus. New and enhanced
services include ophthalmology through Advanced Eye Centers, Inc., renovated space for
pediatrics and
women's health, a
340B pharmacy program through Walgreens and Stop & Shop, and expanded space for group visits and support services.

GNBCHC is a member of the
Massachusetts League of
Community Health Centers, the New England Community Health Association, and
the
National Association of
Community Health Centers.
Rose A. Yates has been Chair of the Board of Directors at the
Greater New Bedford Community Health Center since 1987. She is
recently retired as a senior manager with the Massachusetts Division of Medical
Assistance where she served for 33 years. She is the recipient of the
prestigious Joseph Smith Award from the Massachusetts League of Community
Health Centers for her work as a consumer Board member at the Greater New
Bedford Community Health Center.
Peter Georgeopoulos, CEO has
also served
GNBCHC as Executive Vice President and CFO since 1990. Prior
to his employment at the
GNBCHC, Mr. Georgeopoulos was employed by the
Hospital Corporation of America, Memorial Hospital in Pawtucket Rhode Island
and Bradley Hospital in Providence. He is a former President of the Hospital
Financial Management Association of Rhode Island, and is the recipient of many
healthcare awards in the hospital and community health center fields.
The
Health Center employs three full-time
translators who speak Spanish, Portuguese, and Creole. Many of our staff
members speak other languages such as French, Hebrew, Italian, Polish, Russian,
and Vietnamese. Our highly qualified health care staff includes physicians,
nurse practitioners, a physician assistant, nurses, and a full support staff
consisting of laboratory technicians, radiology technicians, medical
assistants, nutritionists, and socials workers.
